Galostar Limited provided specialist brickwork for the award winning Tower Hamlets Town Hall
Designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Tower Hamlets Town Hall, the new offices for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, encompasses the restoration of the Grade II listed former Royal London Hospital building, and the addition of a new build extension.
The Georgian façade of the existing Grade II listed building has been restored along with the interior, using an approach of honest intervention where the fabric of the old is stitched together with the new with striking effect.
The building as recently won Project of the Year at the Government Property Awards
and is shortlisted for the following awards this year:
Brick Development Association (BDA) Brick Awards
NLA New London Awards
Architects’ Journal Architecture Awards
Building Magazine Building Awards
World Architecture Awards - Civic and Community
The new six-storey extension building consolidates several council offices into one location, providing a contemporary working environment for 2470 staff. A combination of a yellow clamp-fired stock, deep black hand-formatic and a crafted brown glazed brick combine to create a distinctive new façade.
We were pleased to work alongside AHMM, main contractor Bouygues Construction and specialist brickwork contractor Galostar Ltd.
